Introducing Currents of Change

Introducing Currents of Change

Currents of Change is a documentary-style travel series created to explore the places, people and initiatives working quietly to protect our oceans and coastal communities.

After years of travelling the world for work, I’ve come to realise that the most powerful stories aren’t about where we go, but about what’s happening beneath the surface. This series is about slowing down, asking questions and learning from the people who are taking responsibility for the environments they live in. It’s not about pointing out problems, but about sharing solutions, education and hope.

Starting the series in Amed, on Bali’s east coast, felt intentional. It’s a place I’ve spent a lot of time in the water, freediving and diving, and one that holds a deep personal connection for me. Amed is also home to fragile reef systems and a community that understands just how closely their lives are tied to the health of the ocean.

The first episode focuses on Coral Sense Bali, a grassroots initiative bringing together locals, expats and travellers to actively restore damaged reefs. Through community-led restoration days, education and hands-on action, they’re showing how small, consistent efforts can create real impact. From coral planting to reef maintenance, their work highlights why coral ecosystems matter and what’s at stake if we fail to protect them.

This episode also reflects why this series matters to me on a personal level. Being able to share these experiences with my daughter, to introduce her to the ocean beneath the surface and the people working to protect it, is part of the legacy I hope to build. Education, respect and connection are where change begins.

Currents of Change is an invitation to travel with purpose, to listen, to learn and to engage more consciously with the world around us.
